Rifle hunting
Rifle hunting is certainly the most popular method of hunting in South Africa. With rifle hunting, comes the endless topic of ‘which caliber rifle is the best.’ To maximize your hunt of a lifetime in Africa, rifle hunting is mostly done on foot or by means of spot and stalk, depending on the client’s ability and the animal being hunted. While there are many styles of rifles on the market, the tried-and-tested bolt-action rifle is still the standard go-to weapon for serious hunters.
Shot Placement is the most important aspect of any discussion regarding rifle hunting. Shot placement is as critical as ammunition choice. A badly placed shot with even the largest rifle and finest bullet will, at best, result in a long day of tracking or at worst a lost trophy. If you make it bleed – you pay for it.
A word about bullets – as a general rule, premium quality and heavy caliber bullets are the best choice. Many fine bullets are available on the market today. They are available in factory-loaded ammunition or can be hand-loaded if you possess the skill. African game seem to be tougher than most game found elsewhere in the world. So do not try and save on ammunition if you are wanting to take that trophy home!
